By Chiaha, Gertrude Theresa Uzoamaka, Oboegbulu .a

In school administration, maintenance culture'is very necessary since school plant jchool buildings and equipment) are often regarded as pan of the most essential tools designed to facilitate and stimulate educational programmes. The untidiness of the school environment due to unserviced facilities and equipment affect the image of the school. Nwagwu (1983) noted that one of the four important factors in an attempt to balance the qualitative and the quantitative growth of any educational system is the quality and numbcr of infrastructure in the form of buildings, facilities, machinery and equiprncnt.
A number of questions have been agitating the minds of well meaning individuals on the issue of maintenance of school facilities and equipment in our schools. The dilapidated nature of the school buildings, classrooms, potholes, weedy lawns, crack walls etc raises issues on the nature of school bud_get in terms of school faciliti,es and equipment maintenance. One wonders ho\\wer, whether schools in Enugu State have skilled manpower (technicians) that co~ild help in the maintenance of these facilities and equipn~ent and the role of the Post Primary School Management Board with regard to maintenance of facilities and equip'mcnt. Adesina (1981) has argued that with the tremendous increase in the financial allocation to schools. administrators can employ people that could help in maintenance ofthese facilities.
