Abstract

This work undertook to study the nature of conflict that from time to time arises both within the Church and around it with particular reference to the Diocese of Enugu, Anglican Communion. It is to critically examine how they are managed and prevented from escalating and disturbing the work of ministry and the entire society. We made use of phenomenological methodology in this research work because it is the most suitable research method for this type of research work and therefore collected our data through interviews, observation, reports and use of library materials. The Church’s approach to conflict management is unique. They adapt to the best possible most peaceful way or method to deal with conflict and this attitude is commending. Hence it was discovered that the Church is one of the most peaceful loving organization in our society and should be granted a reasonable rights to practice or participate in social mitigation in terms of conflict management. This will make the Church to be much more sensitive and alert to conflict management. Since a peaceful society is a way to a developing society, the concept of conflict management and the Church is apt to our national development. Conflict management is every bodies business, but organization like the Church that has a record of managing conflict properly should be highly commended.
