Abstract

Many "why questions" about human conduct refer to
motivation. In everyday activities people always refm to motives,
wants, desires, needs, goals, thirst, love aspiration, drive, wish, aim,
ambition and revenge to mention but a few.
Motives, or motivation, refm to an internal state that may resuk
from a need. It is pictured as activating or arousing behaviour usually
directed towards fulfilIing the instigating need.
Needs are deficiencies. Drives are motives that arise to satis@
basic survival - related needs, while instincts refers to complicated
pattern of behavim rooted in heredity.
Motivation may be intrinsic or extrinsic - intrinsic when it
comes fkom the individual and extrinsic when it emanates fiom
outside the individual. It is an indispensable stimulus for progress and
growth as well as adjustment in the individual's self actuaIization.
