There are deficiencies in the performance of Government-owned tertiary health institutions in Nigeria. This study evaluated the prospects of public sector participation in managing these institutions. The study recommends public-private partnerships as a strategy to reinvigorate the public tertiary hospitals in Nigeria. The method would assure both government control and gains in efficiency of the private sector.
