The paper takes a quick look at Emile Zola's French society and determines that although the French third Republic has its moral strengths, it is essentially corrupt The paper reveals that Balzac and Standhal by presenting the French society the way they.did through the roles which their characters play through the fate which befall these characters, had sharply given Zola the moral strength to attack vehemently their recreation of restoration age and Feudal Romantic ideology. and within the limits of this sharp contrast, Zola is appreciated and viewed as social critic and moralist
