Availability studies on two varieties of Nigerian millets - Pennisetum typhoides and Pennisetum maiwa prove millet to be available all the year round in commercial quantities that can be really increased.
The crude protein content was 7.30% and 7.5% for the grains of P. thyphoides and P. maiwa respectively, while the fat content was 7.06% and 8.5% respectively. In the malt the crude protein values were 8.53% and 7.79% for P. tyhoides and P. maiwa respectively while the moisture content, crude fibre and ash remain almost unchanged in both grain and malt of P. typhoides.
