MUSEUM OF CULTURAL HISTORY PORTHARCORT: EFFECTIVE USE OF NATURAL LIGHTING IN MUSEUM INTERIOR SPACES

By Ndiomu Oyinkuro

The building which houses objects of historic and cultural interest of a people is a tool to educate and enlighten the younger generation about the life and activities of their forefathers. Most of these objects found in the museums (which were used by our forefathers) are old, fragile and delicate. How they are being protected against climatic factors such as rain sun and wind are of great importance.
A museum preserves and exhibits artefacts, whereas the interpretive plan for an exhibit, determining the most effective methods of communicating a message or telling a story to an observer. One of the major considerations in a museum as regards achieving the said measures in exhibition space is ‘effective lighting’. Sun light being one of the major sources of energy and light during the day is the clearest form of light since it contains all the spectral colours.

By Ajah Moses Nnanna

John Wana Maker, said many decades ago that, "People who cannot find time for recreation are obliged sooner or laterto find time for illness. it is equally true that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and alsothat play re-creates the man but also that play in groups trains the youth. Again a healthy nation is a wealthy nation. there can be no healthy nation if people in the nation have no avenue enough for recreation, an act began by God after creation as the Bible aply pi it "By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. RECORDING STUDIO, PORTHACOURT: A Study of Acoustics and Sound Enhancement

By Ekoh, S. A.

In recent years musicians and record producers have expressed dissatisfaction over the poor quality of music they have been producing in the past years. This is because of the use of inadequately equipped and designed recording studios. While most people agree that the issue needs attention, solving the problem still requires Architectural attention.
This study examined two approaches to solving architectural acoustic problems in music recording studios, and dealt with the effectiveness of the use of proper acoustic building materials and geometry in the design of music recording studios. The examination of recent acoustic treatments in recording studios points to the limitations of creating the best recording environment and suggest the need for a comprehensive solution that combines acoustic building materials, the geometry and sizes of studio interior spaces on this complex problem.
Therefore this study was aimed at using this recording studio to be sited in PortHacourt to show how a modern recording studio should look like from the architectural point of view, thereby trying to enhance the economic viability of the south-south geo-political zone through the production and marketing of quality music.

PRIMARY SCHOOL,Republic Layout Enugu: THE STUDY OF AN IDEAL DESIGN TECTONIC FOR CHILDREN’S LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

By Atuegbu O. J.

A learning environment is an environment that conveys some broad ideas about learning to an individual. It is a term used in connection with a range of quite specific areas of education. A child's development is directly linked to its ability to interact with its environment. Learning environments are typically practical in nature, engaging learners in reasoning about extensive resource sets.
Tectonics being the study area of this work is the relationship between the act of structure and construction. In the modern or developing world, all forms and manner of structural attractions are used to create excitement in the construction of buildings. This can be seen from the nineteenth century, modern, postmodern, and contemporary era. The concept of Tectonics serves as great potential for the integration of architecture and structural technology. It is also an approach that tries to create excitement with the building façade especially in the use of forms, and elements.
A primary school is an institution where children receive the first stage of compulsory education. It accommodates the young within the age range of five to twelve years. A child's development is directly linked to its ability to interact with its environment. Young children require space, indoors and outdoors, where they can be active or quiet, and where they can think, dream and watch others.
Therefore this project is a study of an ideal design tectonic for children’s learning environment which emphasized basically on the excitement of children towards school as well as the use of different forms in the building.
Chapter one introduces the topic based on the learning environment of children and a brief explanation on tectonics. Chapter two is a literature review on the term tectonic and its theoretical framework. Chapter three examines the general design principles of primary schools while Chapter four deals with the presentation of analysis and site location. Finally, Chapter five concludes the design synthesis and concept that is associated with the design.

Water Transport Terminal Oron Akwa Ibom State

By Affia, Okon Isaac

Transportation development reflects the state of advancement of a nation.
Thus, for a sound communication network, organized commercial transaction,
and general development of a community, an efficient transportation system is
of utmost necessity. The Nigerian situation cannot however be said to be
fully in consonance with accepted standards laid out for such a system.
The Nigerian Government has been much inclined to the development of
road and air transportation without adequate socio-economic appraisals. This
however has led to an inefficient transportation system in our coastal areas
which have been quite supportive to the growth of our national economy, in
terms of their agricultural products, oil and mineral deposits.
The Study of this thesis report on the proposed water transport terminal for
Oron is done with a view to achieving an effective transportation system
that will satisfy the yearnings of our river-side communities.
This thesis report is divided into eight chapters. The first chapter dwells on
the introductory part of the thesis, its motivation, aims and objectives,
research methodology and problems encountered during the research work,
etc.

By Mosugu, Ojueni Nathaniel

The earth is a large volume of space i n which human needs necessitate carving out of spaces within this large space. Man's activities are either inside a space (interior) or outside the space (exterior) . Each of the spaces are defined by vertical and horizontal elements and other natural elements in the space setting. The major aim of man is to manipulate both the vertical and horizontal elements to make the space habitable.
