DIAGNOSIS OF ACOUSTIC NEUROMA BY CONVENTIONAL RADIOGRAPHY AND COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY

Abstract

The introduction of x-radiation in medicine follows soon after the
accidental discovery of x-ray by a German physicist, Wilhem Conrad Roentgen in
1895. Efforts have been made to develop and improve the diagnostic value of x-
rays in imaging sciences as well as reducing the deleterious effects of x-rays to
human tissues. Conventional radiography produces a 2-dimensional image of the
body past involved with a problem of superimposition.
Technological development saw to the discovery of computed tomography
(CT) seen in 1972 by the EMI's head of medical products unit, Sir Godfrey
Newbold Hounsfield.
