Effects of the Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach (Calla) on Students Achievement in Essay Writing

Abstract

The study investigated the effects of the Cognitive Academic Language
Learning Approach (CALLA) on undergraduate students' achievement in
essay writing. This study became necessary because of the poor performance of undergraduate students in essay writing. The study employed a non equivalent control group quasi-experimental design. The sample for the
study comprised six hundred and forty eight (648) undergraduate students of
the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, drawn from four faculties in both Nsukka
and Enugu Campuses of the University.
