Traditionally, the sustainability and effective monitoring of sociopolitical lives, norms, values and beliefs of the Ibibio speaking race, was by evolving a unique system of control via the establishment of various institutions. These institutions were numerous, ranging fiom "Ekpe" society, "Ekpo", "Obon", "Akata", "Ekong", "Idiong", "Ebre" and "Mbopo", just to mention a few.
The societies were institutionalized and were vested with the responsibility of evolving norms; beliefs and practice meant to produce an orderly and well behaved egalitarian society.
