Studies on Telfairia Occidentalis (Fluted Pumpkin) and the characterization of fixed oils from the seeds

Abstract

Telfairia accidentalis Hook (cucurbitaceae) is a perennial plant with large fluted fruit. It is a prostate and climbing herb with tendrils. The leaves especially the tender ones, are commonly used in southern parts of Nigeria as a vegetable. The seeds are cooked and eaten as such or used in preparing soup. The seeds are known to have oil and protein composition of 29% and 30% respectively.
