The Church as a Pressure Group in African Politics: The Case of Eastern Nigeria.

Abstract

Our case srudy is focused on Eastern Nigeria of the pre-Civil War period, specifically between 1952 when the first nationalist govcrnmcrlt was formed at~d 1966 when the Government of Eastern Nigerla, along with. the others in the Federation, was sacked by the Army. Nigeria was a Federation of four regions, the East, West, Mid-West and North and a Federal territory of Lagos, but as K.W.J. Post has observed, each of the regions in effect constituted a political system of its own.' In other words, Eastern Nigeria could on its own provide a solid basis for a comparative political analysis
