Household Level Soybean Processing at Iluju Village, Oyo State

By

Abstract

The household level processing of soybean in Iluju village in Orire Local Government Area of Ogbomosho in Oyo State was studied by the Rapid Rural Appraisal team members of the Soybean Utilization Project, Phase II. The study revealed that the villagers were already processing soybeans into soy flour, soymilk, soy cheese, soy akara, soy moin-moin, soy vegetable soup, soy rice, soy amala and soy ogi. They either produced the soybeans used in their farms or bought them from the market. However, the limiting factors in the use of soybeans in Iluju village were non-availability of soybeans sometimes, time consuming and labour intensive processing techniques, lack of market
for soy products and poor storage facilities for processed products.
