Production and Evaluation of Nutraceutical Base from Physic Nut (Jatropha Gossipifolia) Leaves

Abstract

The study involves the production of nutraceutical base (a juice) from raw and processed physic nut leaves and extract, isolation, purification and concentration of the extract and evaluation of the components. Determination of toxicants and anti-nutritional factors and bio-assay studies of the physic nut leave and extract on rats to determine effect on haemoglobin levels/build-up as well as weight loss/gain will be carried out. Physiological studies on the effects of the intake of the physic nut leave extract on organs (liver/ kidney) will be carried out. Comparism of the effects of phycis nut leaves and fluted pumpin (Telfaria occidentalis), garden egg, and African spinach leaves in the treatment of
ailments like anaemia will be done.
