Samples were bought from the producers or collected from public water supply every two weeks and analyzed for consistency in product quality and effect of storage. Water samples were analyzed for physical parameters ( turbidity, total dissolved, colour, taste, odour and overall acceptability,); chemical parameters (electrical conductivity, total hardness, chloride, free residual (active) chlorine and pH); and microbiological parameters (total plate count and coliform count) and sensory properties This study has shown that the quality of sachet and bottled water supply sold in Makurdi town have all fell within the acceptable levels for potable water as recommended in World Health Organization and Nigerian Industrial Standards for Potable water and the quality was consistent over the period of analysis. However the water obtained from the public water
supply failed to meet standard for portable water ,especially the microbial quality. Better treatment should be given to the public water supply in Makurdi town before distribution to avoid water borne diseases
